Recently, the Department of Economy and Information Technology of Hubei Province officially announced the evaluation results of the 2024 Provincial Manufacturing Single Champion Enterprises. Wuhan Yafei Seed Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as 'Yafei Seed') was successfully selected by virtue of its outstanding R&D strength and market performance in the broccoli series products.

This selection is an important measure for Hubei Province to implement the Implementation Opinions on Accelerating the Cultivation and Development of High-quality Manufacturing Enterprises, and is carried out strictly in accordance with the Measures for the Cultivation, Management and Identification of Provincial Manufacturing Single Champion Enterprises. Single champion enterprises rank among the top in specific segmented fields and are the core driving force for the high-quality development of manufacturing. After several rounds of expert review and comprehensive evaluation, Yafei Seed stood out from numerous participating enterprises and became one of the few awarded units in the agricultural technology field, demonstrating the company’s hard-core strength in broccoli germplasm innovation.

As a practitioner in the field of broccoli breeding in China, Yafei Seed has long focused on tackling key 'bottleneck' technologies in germplasm resources, and carried out in-depth industry-university-research cooperation with the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Huazhong Agricultural University and other institutions. Now it has formed a sound innovation cycle of 'R&D one generation, reserve one generation, promote one generation'. Taking this award as a new starting point, Yafei Seed will accelerate the iterative upgrading of products. At present, a new generation of varieties such as Yafei Broccoli 24059#, Yafei 70 (24319#), and Broccoli 24027# have completed regional trials. These new varieties will further improve the company’s broccoli variety matrix and meet the diversified needs of different planting areas.

Being selected as a provincial manufacturing single champion is not only an important milestone in the development of Yafei Seed, but also the latest achievement of Hubei in building a highland for modern seed industry innovation. Yafei Seed will continue to deepen the field of cruciferous broccoli, and make unremitting efforts to promote Hubei’s transformation from a 'big seed province' to a 'strong seed province'.
